Diabetes Data Wiki

I want to use this Wiki as a collaboration site to get agreement on a standard Microformat to represent data related to controlling your diabetes. Right now I believe it should be possible to represent several types of data values.

Some of this work will be based on my paper from the March 2007 issue of the Journal for Diabetes Science and Technology.

If you'd like to get involved in this effort, please e-mail me:

I've got some agreement from two websites that collect diabetes data that they will support these microformats for diabetes data, once they've been agreed upon.

Why Use Microformats?

Staying Informed

This Wiki has an RSS Feed. So if you'd like to keep an eye on changes, just subscribe to http://diabetesdata.pbwiki.com/atom.php.

What can you do with the information in this site?

Pretty much anything you want, provided you share it with others and you indicate that you got it from here.

Who Am I?

I'm not sure how you came to this site. So I thought I'd give a brief overview of myself.

My name is Bernard Farrell. I've had Type 1 diabetes since September 1972.

Currently (May 2007) I use three different diabetes devices that collect data:

  1. An Insulin Pump (currently a Minimed 512)
  2. A continuous glucose monitor (currently a Dexcom STS)
  3. A blood glucose meter (currently a OneTouch Ultra).

At present, there is no way to take the data from these three devices and collect it into one piece of software so I can view it and make decisions based on the information.

And one of the reasons why this is so hard is because each device stores the data in its own proprietary format. This is one of the reasons why I want to get an agreed format for basic diabetes-related data.

If you want to know more about me, please look at my diabetes blog.
